About Reads @ HPC

Reads @ HPC is set up in parallel with HPC Library. We provide members & worshippers of Hope PC with a collection of Christian books, and also this website which we hope would bring people together.

The objective of this site is firstly to provide the complete listing of books which we have at the library, which is located at level 3 of Hope Presbyterian Church. However, we intend for this site to be more than just a listing of books.

This site is open to all members and worshippers of Hope PC, and we hope that you will visit regularly.

Being linked to a church, naturally we will have a “verse of the day”. We will also publish interesting articles, both humorous and reflective ones, which we sometimes receive from friends (which the spam software did not filter out). Of course we will be selective to ensure that only appropriate materials are included.

How did we come up with the name Reads ? We wish there were some lofty and theologically sound reasons for that name, but there is none. It is named Reads because the guy who set up this website, due to time constraint, thought that our library books are great "reads" ..... so there you go.

This site is open to all members and worshippers of Hope PC, and we hope that you will visit regularly. We also hope (notice we use this word all the time) that you will contribute to the input to this website, in the form of book reviews, interesting articles, jokes and suggestions as to how to make this site relevant. Hope.

WHAT
HPC library was set up in early 2008, with the existing stock of books that the church had. Most of the books were contributed by Rev William Wan many years ago. A number of the books were from Antioch Church. The rest of the books are contributed by other members and worshippers of HPC.
The library covers a wide range of subjects, including Theology, Parenting, Christian Ethics, Counselling & Biographies.

There are 3 sections under which the books are grouped:

Main section - more than 2000 books
Junior section (ages 1 - 12) - more than 300 books
Young People section (ages 13 - 20) - not many books especially written for youths; however, many books from the main section are relevant for young people.

WHERE
The library is located at level 3 of HPC, right after you enter from the door entrance near the lift. The books are stocked in the shelves in the open area.

WHEN
Current plan is to launch the library sometime in March. Announcement will probably be via a short publicity video, poster and this site. Watch this space.

WHY
We believe that good Christian books will help in the spiritual growth of members. However, we do not want to adopt the typical image of a church library, which is dull and boring. That’s why we have chosen to put the books in an open area, and do without membership cards (just record the books you borrow, DIY basis). And also this website.
